To Write or Create

How about write about creating? I go between designing jewelry to writing, my two loves. Throw in music, at this time I am listening to Anuna Celtic Origins. I am not sure which if I had to pick could I do without the longest for within me they intermix and encourage growth of the other.

I started designing jewelry about twelve years ago when my idea of excitement was going to the nearest craft store and buying a set of pliers. I grew in my knowledge and discovered more venues to purchase goods from. I am now on my third or fourth set of tools, having given the first set to a friends daughter.

Once you have the creative bug in your veins, it never leaves. When I don't want anyone to know the thoughts in my head jewelry creation is the perfect outlet for me. I loose myself in the colors, the textures and endless ideas abound. A few years back I sat at my desk wildly creating for nearly six hours.

The problem I have discovered is that I am quite content many times to just be left alone. Are you really ever alone when surrounded by fifteen cases of beads? The beads don't talk back to you, right? Wrong. To me, they say "I belong on a necklace, I long to be a great centerpiece" another might say "I deserve to sway from ears while the lady dances".

The beads most certainly do talk. Even before they are completed peices they tell stories. Lampwork beads from an artist bare heart and soul, wind and fire, playfulness and absolute passion. Vintage beads hold a special history and when I handle them I can imagine tea parties, ballroom dances and beach picnics.

I prefer polymer clay to sculpt with. I sit and gather the colors, mulling over the possibilites without ever knowing what I may create. I have shown peices in galleries and those are usually the ones my daughter either takes for herself or to send to her friends. I consider it the biggest of compliments. Here is a picture of my lovely daughter wearing one of my creations.

I wish I could spend my days doing nothing but writing and creating jewelry. Maybe someday I will get there. As for music, it's in my veins in a different way. I sang with school choirs, church choirs, caroling groups, the Sweet Adelines and at home or even in the grocery store.

Currently, I sing my young son to sleep just like I used to sing my daughter to bed who is now twenty years old. I have changed the songs I sing very slightly and tonight for the first time, my son sang with me.

Our song of choice for the evening "Take Me Home Country Roads". It is the most precious of all gifts to sit with my son and watch him watch me and have him mimic my mouth movements and hold my chin up while doing so. My life is truly blessed.

Think about what makes your heart pitter patter, stop a beat and twitter. However you say it, however you tweak it; you know when there is a little extra swing in your step. I actually get this feeling from various things, music, people and creating!

I attended a small concert tonight that was so full of energy all I could do after a few hours was think "I want to get home to write!" Now, this is just a little blurb on the blog map but I intend on writing more.

I did not realize it had been so long since I had posted here. I had been busy with creating, writing, job hunting, moving from a flooded apartment, new site building...everything apparently but blogging!! eeekkk!! Forgive me...

Time Flies

Already having been in the Seattle area for a month and a half, I can say I am quite pleased with life. My designs are being shown at the Columbia City Gallery and I am waiting to hear back on my application to another. I am also waiting to hear back on a festival application for August.

My goal is ten galleries or combined retail locations all at once. This may take some time to achieve as I also am pursuing my writing. Stayed tuned... I am up to almost 2000 words. Writing for me is so rewarding and I get on a "roll". My creative juices don't stop. Just like when I sit down to create jewelry, I can often spend hours upon hours at it.

I have a desk in the corner in pieces meant to be my jewelry work area. I may have to tackle putting it together myself very soon. The beads are calling me and they, along with the wire, tools and clay are all here now.

Whatever shall I make first? I think some bead weaving is long overdue.

Good Sunday morning!

What Do You Do At Three Thirty in The Morning?

If you are me, you are writing at three thirty in the morning. Yard sale looming just hours away, signs not done because you left the markers at the neighbors house....What do you do at three thirty in the morning?

I really should be sleeping. I am thinking though of this evenings earlier phone conversations.

I posed a question...."What then, after that?" It's nice to know that at least the first steps are in place to forgiveness. I have left the door open and we shall see. I am wondering if I need to be forgiven as well. I did react and showed my hurt....I spoke some truths, at least from my side.

There is always more than one side to a story but without communication, all we can do is piece together our own truth as we see it. If it is not accurate, is it our fault? In a way, yes.

For a while, silence worked. Silence is actually a sweet thing when shared with someone. You can sit in silence together, on a phone, hear their breath and feel them. If you can do this, then forgiveness should be easy.

Humility comes into play in forgiveness. One must be humble to appreciate the beautiful silence that is shared between two. One must be patient to sit and wait for the silence.

That leads me to my next thought, since I have already been impatient I know the first thing I must ask forgiveness for. Second, I must ask forgiveness for acting out of hurt. We do this all the time so you may be wondering why this is a concern of mine.

I once had someone say to me "Don't mistake love for feelings that have gone unchecked." In this case, I need to be forgiven and forgive myself for unchecked emotions~hurt which resulted in anger.

Luckily, as I have taken back control of my life the anger has subsided. Knowing I have done this on my own is satisfying to an extent. Asking for help and accepting help have always been a bit foreign to me. I am, after all still a work in progress. I figure I have another forty years or so left before I am complete.

Good Evening!

I am wondering just how many of you spend hours and hours on your computer and leave the television virtually untouched? Between Facebook, Twitter, Etsy, My Blogs and email I admit I do sit here quite a bit.

I have just over 30 days before I hit the road and I will not have access to a computer for about four days. Whatever shall I do??? Today, I loaded all of my contacts from my address book into my cell phone. Upon doing so, I discovered I really need to clean up my address book! Yikes....

I am in Ohio, three hours ahead of most of the people I would visit with. So while my decency tells me don't call because it's late, I realize even though its 11pm here its only 8pm back there....I believe when I hit the road to return to my home state I will feel relief. I can imagine as I drive closer and closer wanting to drive longer hours each day just to get there faster.

I will keep you all posted....

Lipka and Gifts from Heaven

After the sun has let up and the doors have been left open so that the beetles may join in on the evening fun Lipka has shared his gifts from heaven.

I have spent almost the last two hours watching a movie named "Zelary". My daughter brought it home from the library. Lord, I have come to love foreign films with subtitles. It is the second one I have watched this week. In this particular case, I have paused the movie for I know something sinister is about to happen and I wish to be no part of it. At least, not until I get these thoughts out of my head.

It used to be I would say "get these down on paper." For the sake of speed, accuracy and legibility I am preferring the computer to paper most days. Journals carried with me are most preferred for as I find too often I can not hold onto the exact words long enough to record them.

So, Lipka...what are his gifts from heaven and why did I feel the need to stop the movie to share them with you? Really, the movie is about the main character who saves a man's life and ends up married to him. Why focus on Lipka?

Lipka is the poor boy who is beaten by the live in mate of his mother. I can not fathom a mother who would stay with a man who would do such a thing. Lipka receives gifts from heaven that lifts his spirits and helps him through winter. At least, that is what I would like to believe. I paused the movie after he shared blocks of his chocolate aka gifts from heaven and it is only the beginning of winter. The pause is because I do not want to see the ugliness that I believe is about to unfold before me.

We are exposed to so much ugliness daily. I know I will return to the movie but why sour the sweet words that need to be put into press before they leave me? The lady who has married this man out of necessity is becoming to love him. Imagine 1943, the underground, a house with no electricity and a city girl is smack dab in the middle of it falling in love with what the villagers refer to as an old goat.

I do want to know what happens next. But I wanted to share Lipka's gifts from heaven with you first. Such a simple thing, sharing the chocolate. Bittersweet, melts on your tongue and for just a moment your able to escape to a better place. A place with no terror, no empty cupboards and no lack of love.

Remember Lipka as you go about your day. A poor boy with whiplash marks on his back, chocolate stashed in his home made of cedar branches in the middle of the forest in the winter and no family to call his own and yet he shares his chocolate.

Crosses that We Bear

I know of people that are judged due to their mistakes. I prefer to withhold judgment entirely if at all possible. It is not, in my eyes our job to judge anyone but ourselves. The people walking amongst us bear their own crosses. They live daily with their decisions, mistakes and chosen paths. We do not need to remind them of their mistakes.

Keep in mind that we too have made our own mistakes and if you are young yet and have not had enough life experiences to make these mistakes you also do not have the wisdom to judge others. Remember of course, to keep in mind my original statement that we do not have the right to judge anyone but ourselves in the first place.

If you cross paths with a person that has made so many mistakes that you can not see past them and come to know the person that they are inside and can not accept that person then, it is time to move on. We are a forever evolving work in progress. Seldom do we start out perfect even with the best upbringing and the best of intentions.

This moving on can be done in many ways. Gradually stepping back or altogether physically and or emotionally separating yourself from that person. If this person is a family member it is a more delicate task that must be done with tact unless you plan on never speaking to that person or any of that persons “circle” again.

This brings me back to the title of this post. The crosses we bear. Some are carrying around heavy ones that weigh down on them and when you judge them it only brings them down further. The enlightened way to approach this person would be to pick up the heaviest section of their cross and help them carry the load.

You can do this by being a friend, listening, laughing with them, sharing things with them and rebuilding their world one memory at a time. If you can do this for anyone at anytime of your life you not only enriched their life but yours as well.

Sit Down with your Coffee, My Loved Ones

Good morning all,

I have decided that since you are my "inner circle" I wish to share some thoughts with you. Most often I would put these on my blog or a journal but I feel the need to share my thoughts today in such a way that I know you are reading them. There is that possibility this may sit in your inbox a few days or maybe you won't read it at all. That's ok. I may actually go ahead and put this on my blog.

I am a creator/writer/thinker at heart. I do often wear my heart on my sleeve at least to those closest around me. I have love and love enough to share. Friendship requires a certain amount of love and acceptance. Love doesn't have to mean the romantic kind of love although, this is on my mind quite a bit. I also believe we influence the world around us which is why I choose to be a positive force.

If you happen to be so lucky as to find love that encompasses all that you have dreamed of but thought you would never find-you must do all you can to hold onto it. That's a tricky thing. How do we hold onto something that is "intangible"? You can not hold actual love in your hands. However, if you find someone you love that has a hand to hold...by all means grab it and hold on.

Sometimes your heart is open to someone and you didn't even know it until they were fully inside and sat down with a cup of coffee. There is an ease and naturalness to this that you can not ignore. When you find this and it is a romantic type love don't forget to feed it daily. You must never let the one you love forget that you love them. Don't assume they are mind readers but instead fully speak your mind with delicate words knowing full well that they accept you and love you as well.

There is a second side to that we should discuss. Sometimes we can nurture that love and memory ourselves while absent from the one we love. We need to have faith and remember why and how we got to where we are. We need to be patient with love for being in love with a person is indeed a cherished state that requires patience and nurturing. It is truly a give and take. So, give and take equally and unselfishly.

Love must be handled with balance in mind. Delicately but firmly. We can not hold onto something that another has no intention of letting us hold on to. What we do hold onto in those cases are the memories, the lessons and the love we felt during the union. Always keep love in your heart for in doing so you will be open to life's possibilities.

Balance in life doesn't have to be so difficult but for some it can be and as "the others" in their lives we need to be aware that we are not a perfect people and accept these imbalances unless they adversely affect us. We should and the people we love should reach a balancing point with all things. It takes only minutes to let the one we know we are thinking of them but years to fix the damage of not ever letting it be known and often we never get those chances back.

This balance in life means we don't lose sight of who we are instead, we nurture ourselves and the ones around us by being fully capable of being who we are, developing who we are and growing together. Never lose yourself to another to the point that you forget who you are or forget to be who you are. Remember that the people who are in your life are in it because they love and appreciate who you are.

If you are unfortunate enough to have people in your life you can't say this about then we need to speak of toxicity. People and situations can be toxic to different degrees. The Lord gives us only what we can handle. When you have too much, it is up to you to decipher what to weed out. Toxicity can poison our hearts, minds and souls. It eats away at the very being of who we are and the quicker you rid yourself of these negative things or persons the better off you will be.

I tend to try and spread my sunshine and positive thoughts to anyone who will listen. I have no trouble getting into a good debate on the pros and cons of positive thinking, our influences on the world around us, choices, karma and relationships. I may not have ended up where I want to be but I am still happy with my life and have no regrets. Life is what it is. Life goes on. My life is blessed. Just the simple act of saying those words and letting them sink in can do wonders. Read them again and again and if you have any negative thoughts in your own head today, let these words replace them: My life is blessed.

Life is Sweet

And unfortunately, too short.

I had posted recently on my writings and my intentions of posting them here and I will continue to post personal things, musings if you will from time to time. I have not yet fully decided to post all of my writings here or simply create another blog attached to this account to put them on. After all, this particular form of writing does warrant in itself a special atmosphere. To have kept them on the original blog seemed wrong some how for many reasons.

To jumble it all together with events, jewelry biz and other thoughts may not do it justice either. I would hate for it to get lost amongst the shuffle. Then again, it may end up being like my other blog...my "green one" and not get much notice at all. So, what to do...what to do... Still thinking on that one. I will not hide it away under a fictitious name for in doing so I do not do myself or the things or people I write about justice.

Anonymity can be a good thing. I do not look for recognition. On the other hand, I don't want my works stolen or gone unnoticed. I would at the very least like to know I have touched someones life with my positive thoughts. I know already I have touched a few and that is good enough for me. Really, to touch just one soul is enough.

I am in love. It has slapped me up against my face at the most unexpected time and I am forever grateful and reveling in its glory. These may seem like big words to some. If you were in my shoes, you would think they were not big enough. I had written nearly one hundred poems reflecting on this love and all that it brings to mind. Even when I write about the dragonflies or the meadows, it is with love in mind.

I had a chance to talk endlessly recently with a family member whose views are quite different from mine. He kept apologizing for things amongst the conversation and I kept telling him there was no need. I like a good conversation. It wasn't what I would call heated but it came close. It was a debate of sorts on views ranging from positive thinking, love, relationships, karma, our past, influences and life's choices in general. I don't mind being told when I am wrong or someone even pointing out that maybe I am not taking the correct course at the moment. However, in the end it is I that has to live with these decisions and not anyone else. Well, not entirely true. My decisions do at times affect others. There is no way to live a completely solitude life so no matter what we do, the choices we make do affect others.

I give with my whole heart and love this way. I believe if I treat myself and others with respect and forge ahead with love in mind all the while still keeping my eyes open, I can not go wrong. HAHAHA you say...I know, I know. There is always that chance of failure. What we have to keep in mind are these things:

Do not let the fear of failure stop you from trying.
Do not let fear stop you from doing anything.
The only thing you should fear is fear itself for fear can stop us dead in our tracks.

On the positive side of that:

Love conquers all.
Love heals all wounds.
Love is the ultimate unselfish act.
Love is meant to be shared.
With love in mind you can not go wrong.

Let me explain that last one....even if at the end of a particular portion of your life you are not where you want to be or with the person you wish you were with...if you have loved and tried then, you can be proud of that effort. It is not a bad thing to have loved and lost. What is sad is to have never loved at all.

I am exceptionally grateful for my closest friends and family that I know I can always trust and count on. I am grateful that I have weathered the storms of my life. I am happy with the person I am today.

Intermixing Business and Personal Lives

Good morning all,

I have been:

Running two blogs
Creating random pieces of jewelry
Preparing for an out of state move
Getting my daughter ready to graduate and start college
Listing items on Etsy and my own website
Keeping up with Facebook for personal connections and a business page
I twitter
Post when I can on American Craft Guide and others. I am involved in two Etsy groups as well.

Life is taking a shift and so have I. I write poetry, short stories and prose. I am published on Associated Content, have published once in a book and published on my own on my other blog. This other blog and this other "side" of me has stayed fairly hidden for it is always hard to put raw feelings out there.

I can take a word or thought and build it into a beautiful work of art. Just like taking one bead and making something someone will treasure for years. I am done hiding. I will post these writings here for all to see from time to time. Not all of them, but most. I do believe that no matter where my life goes I have a gift to share that I don't need a ghost writing name for.

This is what I started, a blog under my fictitious childhood name. Until recently, it held all my deepest feelings. A few in draft that I did not want to share even. I have always written. Jewelry creating for me filled a void that I could not fill with words. Sometimes words are too hard to get out or a person may not want them out for all to see. For years, I had writers block that was brought on by life's circumstances. That block has been blown to smithereens. When you create art, in jewelry form or any other, you are communicating your inner feelings to the world.

We strive for perfection of sorts and look for acceptance. It brings joy to know another appreciates what we have created. Artists are strong but at the same time vulnerable. This makes for a interesting combination that some people do not understand and even others may take advantage of. There are beautiful souls everywhere but when you are in the midst of an artists soul, you are blessed tenfold.

My best friend is a beautiful soul and you may read about her one day. She writes wonderfully. I tend to write about the earth around us and emotions. She can write wonderful stories that pull you in. When I have her permission, I will post her name here so when her writings are published you can be the first to know!

So, my ghost writing name...Abigail...Abigail the wall flower. Because in school, that is what I was. A wall flower, someone that never came out of the corner, someone that hid up against the wall at the school dances and someone who believed no one ever understood her. Except her best friend of course. Now, at this point in life it doesn't matter if anyone understands. If I write something you don't understand feel free to interpret it any way you want or you may directly ask me to let you in on the inner meanings.

I will no longer hide for in hiding no one gets to know the real me. I am forty one years old, been married a few times and I have love in my heart to share.

Sign of Life

Good morning all,

I have been thinking recently on communication and how our computers link us together. Between email, social marketing sites, networks and nings we are never really out of touch. This brings me to the population of people that either chose to not have or use computers or who may not use them as much.

What if you are thousands of miles away from someone you care about? You email them, right? You may even call. If you have a cell phone you might even text them. How do you handle it if you don't hear back from them? It might be a day, it might be two days. How are you? Do you fret?

I admit I have. With some people I just know I will hear from them eventually and I don't worry. You know the saying "Don't sweat the small stuff"? My brother and I have an agreement that around the six week mark, its time to get in touch. So, why fret if you don't hear from someone for a day or two? Good question.

So, not sweating the small stuff. Right now, I feel like there is no small stuff. The seed pods that fall of the vines are amusement for my son and I. Thunderstorms are welcomed in and the doors stay open all night. The dog wants to play tug o' war for the fifth time....you see, there is no small stuff really because without these things our lives would not be complete.

It's the little details, the little sweet things that make our life complete. So, back to signs of life. Don't let time go by without letting the ones you care about know this. Any sign of life is good.

Getting Ready for a Move

We have all done it, moved. The big ugly "M" word. I am happy to be moving this time and can't wait for June to come! I am hanging out in Ohio long enough for my daughter to graduate then, I am hitting the road!

I moved here with a 26 ft moving van that was nearly full and will be leaving with just a jeep full. In it will be me, my teenage daughter, my toddler, my dog, one cat, 2 sewing machines and as much other stuff as we can fit. On top will be my sons trike and wagon along with whatever else the roof rack will hold. Watch out for me! You won't be able to miss me.

It will be an adventure on the road to a new chapter in my life that I am very much looking forward to. So, stay tuned...more yet to come.

It is a beautiful rain filled morning and I have much to accomplish! Sometimes, I am thankful that the rain comes because then I can focus on indoor tasks. While I do love the rain, it does damper things just a bit when you think about walking miles and miles with a toddler just for the sake of getting out.

I am preparing for a move this summer so should be spending my days cleaning my basement. Of all the fun filled activities...hahahaha, I am not going to finish that sentence. Really, the fun comes when you find something in a box you had forgotten you have and it is from let's say, Junior High.

Even in all my moves and life changes I have seemed to hold onto things that I once thought were important that really don't need hanging onto. For instance, I do not need my brothers report cards from Grade school to Senior year! I will blame my mother partially for this pack rat mentality I have. I will let go of many things in the next two months and I look forward to it.

How many of you have looked around your place and thought to yourself... "My things are overtaking me?" I am not to that point but it is close. It is not even a matter of how many things you have necessarily, for I don't think I have any more than most. It has something to do with where your mind is at and where you want to go.

I want to let go so I may move on physically and mentally very easily and somewhat quickly. The decision to move was made months ago and I still have months to wait before the move happens. I look forward to it with sweet anticipation.

New Directions

Good Sunday morning all,

I looked back a bit on my posts and I believe I failed to mention my new etsy shop. I love to create. I would if possible sit at my desk which happens to be my late grandmothers black metal desk and create until my fingers give way.

Since I am forever creating my styles evolve and often I can not stay within one style. I fill my etsy shop with rocks and vintage items I have collected. Recently, it was pointed out to me that I am a positive energy. I had not thought of myself in those terms exactly, but would most definitely have to agree. Life has dealt me a crooked set of cards so to speak. Maybe if I were a card player I would say "Life has dealt me a bad hand". There are so many clever analogies I could use here. Life has given me a bowl of lemons.

In all reality, at least in my view I have been blessed a thousandfold in may ways. The trying times have made me stronger, wiser and have given me a stronger voice. I am a force to be reckoned with. I do not mean I am scary, I do not stalk people, I do not anger easily. However, I am Irish, German and Dutch...so, anger can spring up at times. Slow to anger, quick to forgive. Forgiveness is earned in a way but also can be given just because you know you need to. So, quick to forgive in many cases.

Blessings come in many packages including ones in disguise. It's all in how you view things. Many people that suffer from depression do not know how to "deal" or view things in a positive light and need to be taught this philosophy if you will, if possible. This is where I can honestly admit I loose my patience. I have an abundance of patience and have tried to share my insight with others and do so willingly and patiently. Then, there comes a point when I can not get through. Some people can not easily learn this attitude, to some it just comes natural. I am a natural.

So, you ask what have my obstacles been? I will not go into detail too many decades back but I will share a bit of a background story with you. Both of my parents were alcoholics, both were abusive in their own way. Both of them used myself and my sibling as weapons during the marriage, during the divorce and after the divorce.
My mother passed away when I was sixteen years old unexpectedly.

I am going to end that portion of the story right there. Possibly, after we get to know each other a bit more I will share more with you. For now, this gives you an idea where I started and an understanding that against all odds, I am a firm believer in positive thinking, positive influences, karma, faith, sharing all that you have knowing full well you will receive an abundance of what you need when you need it.

I believe that you should expect certain things. Love, respect, honor and commitment go hand in hand. This to some may seem like an antiquated notion to be swept aside. In a way, it is. I love antiquated notions. Honoring thyself should never be forgotten amongst all of this.

So, what do you do with a bowl full of lemons?
You make lemonade and sit by the river with your best friend.

What do you do with that bad hand dealt to you?
Throw a card back and keep playing.

Times A Wasting Or is it?

Really, if we are enjoying our day even if we didn't accomplish anything, is time really wasted?

In my opinion, no. Time is precious and as long as the important things get done in a reasonable time manner then, all is "good". For instance, don't let your taxes go by the wayside do play chase with your son. Do play everyday! Whether it be with your craft, your kids, your pets or just hanging out with your friends. Let's not forget our significant others as well.

They support us in all that we do, hopefully anyway. This can be where the hard struggle is. The husband works hard, the wife works just as hard, the kids play hard and their is almost no time for the husband and wife to get together. Remember to thank your significant other for doing all they do even if at times it doesn't seem like much. Possibly they are doing all they can and recognizing this can actually motivate them, encourage them and uplift them. In doing so, you have just made yourself feel better too.

My quote of the day: "Time is not wasted if we are spending it with the ones we love."

I read an article recently that reinforced what I already knew and had been telling a friend: Smile, it instantly cheers you up! The simple act of acting happy actually makes you feel happier!

I often find myself taking several days to create a new design that I should have completed easily within a day. So, what takes me so long? I have cats that want to play, eat and get brushed. I have two dogs who think they are the babies in the house. I have a teenager graduating this year. I have a toddler who wants my undivided attention. In fact, as soon as I stop typing he has a book he wants me to read to him. I also have a husband who is supportive of my late nights creating, typing and networking whether it be for social interaction or business.

So, there you have it. Time is not wasting, at least not around here.

Buckeye Recipe I promised!

Buckeye Recipe

1 cup butter, melted
2 cup peanut butter
3 cup powdered sugar

Blend all and form into balls the size of a Buckeye
For those of you that don’t know what a Buckeye is just make it about the
size of a golf ball
Refrigerate for 2 hrs
Melt 24 oz choc in a double boiler
Hold peanut butter balls with toothpick to dip into chocolate & put on wax
paper & refrigerate.

Don't forget to make a double batch as these are sooooo YUMMY you won't want to stop eating them!

Merry Day After Christmas

In case you haven't realized it yet, Christmas has come and gone. I enjoyed the mayhem, the last minute gifts, the midnight gift wrapping and of course eating waaaay too many goodies.

"Jesus is the reason for the season" is a quote I read at candlelight service that I have seen a few times before. Jesus is the reason for the season. If you read that outloud a few times over I believe your voice will get quieter but more sure of itself as you do. I believe in this quote.

For the children, it's all about Santa. For the adults, it's also about pleasing the ones around us and seeing the smiles on the little ones faces. But undoubtably, Jesus doesn't leave our hearts even in the hustle and bustle of the holiday.

I am very fortunate to have a teenager that is not "label hungry", to have a toddler who awes at wooden planes and a mother in law who makes awesome cookies who also happens to have a significant other who makes even more awesome carrot cake. I am fortunate to have a husband who puts up with my ranting about the things that need to be cleaned and put in order before company comes.

I am thankful for so many simple things. My dog who lets my toddler put his finger in his nose, snow for Christmas and good friends. I hope you and your family had a blessed holiday and find many things to be thankful for this year.

Almost Christmas

Good morning all,

Hope this Sunday is finding you rested and peaceful. Here I sit at my computer still in my pjs relishing the rare morning that my husband is here to occupy the little one. In all reality, he's not so little. He will be two in March and has been wearing toddler sized clothes for a bit now.

I find myself keeping him up later just to see him run and smile. Simple little pleasures that mean so much. I know from experience that these days will pass all too soon. My daughter will be eighteen next week! I still get the occasional smile along with the eye roll. However, I thank my blessings every time I see her doing a chore I didn't have to ask her to do since I am pulled in many directions by a roaming toddler that is discovering everything!

He does his part to help in the house by putting the dogs dish in the sink when its empty, dumping everything he can onto the floor so I can put it away, smelling the candles and putting the in between the couch cushions to make it smell yummy. He has even tried to put the leash on the dogs to walk them. My favorite is when he throws all his toys into the tub so mom can enjoy them.

As for the jewelry designing, I do have a small collection started that has not yet been photoed. I am so scattered in my designs that I believe I will categorize my site eventually by style instead of by the usual necklace/earrings/bracelet and such. I think every woman or man for that matter can reinvent themselves almost daily and jewelry is one way to do that. We decorate our homes, why not decorate ourselves?

I personally never leave home without earrings on. Often, I also pile on the bracelets and favor short necklaces over long ones since I have a little one I have to carry around and dogs in the house that like to chase me when we are playing piggy back.

When things quiet down and I finish the chores, run to the store for sewing needles, research personal papers, see the husband off to work, I will finish the pearl and sterling silver flower necklace I have started and post a picture for you all to enjoy. In the meantime, enjoy the picture of my little one. Notice all his bling. He has his own collection he likes to pile on all at the same time. Maybe he's the next big designer!

Balance with Buckeye's

Yes, you read right. Balance with buckeye's. A catchy phrase if you ask me. I intend on disappearing to my living room with hot tea and a pile of buckeye's as big as my stomach can take.

If you have never had buckeye's do make sure to add them to your holiday eating list. Chocolate and peanut butter never tasted so good. So, how does this topic get into a blog written by a jewelry designer? I think in my other life I may have been sweets taster.

Balance is so important, especially with the upcoming holidays. Hustle and bustle about but remember to do it with balance...and buckeye's. In my travels to our local library I keep picking up books on balance and I never seem to find time to read them. Something about a toddler in the house that sometimes doesn't nap that keeps me so busy I forget about the books.

Speaking of toddlers, my little one needs his monkey that is getting dried in the dryer. So, off I go to deliver a favorite bedtime friend. Blessings to you all and I hope you have had a Thanksgiving to be thankful for. Remember to look ahead with a heart filled with optimism.

News!! New Site Design!!

Elation! I have been working once again with up and coming web designer Melinda H. and we are very near putting the finishing touches on my website.

I can't say that zencart has been my most favorite thing to work with. We have considered at times ditching the whole site and starting fresh but alas, we may not have to. Simplicity is key. Black, grey, white, gradients, slide show and more....I think we may have just found the answer to dressing up a template.

Trying to think outside of the box when your working in boxes, literally...well, it's a challenge. I am admittedly not a coder, so please everyone a round of applause and a big pat on the back to Melinda for her patience!

I am still taking new pictures and resizing so the site is faster and the pictures are cleaner looking. I hope you all take a moment to peek in and send me an email with suggestions or comments.

Here it is, another start to a week....I did succeed at completing a few things today including listing two more items online. I can't say the weekend was all that productive but it was fun. Mums the word on what we did.

What I can tell you is that my daughter and I shopped at a vintage store in Clintonville, Ohio named Mad4Mod. Mad is what you would be if you had to navigate this store on your own. They are so chuck full of clothes, shoes and accessories that you feel like you are being overtaken. We did have one poufy blue dress that kept springing to life every time we got near it. Fortunately, the sales staff are so helpful and knowledgeable that you don't have to navigate on your own. You would literally need days to search through the inventory.

We did find a lovely 1950's Mexican wedding dress that my daughter fell in love with. For her to fall in love with any dress is spectacular. The dress is a chocolate brown cotton with a lot of lace which is why we also brought home a slip. It is to be for prom which I know is a still a long time in coming but since she loved it, the dress came home with us. Here's a peek....the best I could fit it in since it is long and flowing.

Wandering Creations

I am wondering just how many artists begin with a clear picture of what their ending peice will actually look like. I often find myself beginning something and thinking that it will be a bracelet when in fact when I am done it has transformed into a necklace. Something about the creation process is fulfilling even if you don't end up with what you thought you originally would.

Currently, I am working on a woven peice that was to be a bracelet that then was going to be a small pouch and now is almost a completed necklace. I am not sure if anything what this says about me. Except I can "go with the flow" and I am spontaneous. When the necklace is complete I will post pictures here for you to see. It is still a work in progress and I imagine it will take a few more days to finish. This is mostly due to the path I will take to get to the "end" and a little to do with the time it actually takes to weave.

A simple woven bracelet can take 2 hours to complete while more intricate patterns can take 6 to 9 hours. If your ever in my neck of the woods, possibly we can sit down together and start a project.....

It's a Sad Day

If you have ever had the love of a dog you know how loyal and sweet they can be. Bernard was one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. This morning, I sadly had to lay him to rest. He was five years young but was unable to lift himself or walk even half a block. I sat with him and cried as he went to doggy heaven. Thank you to the kind vet and assistants at the Alexandria Animal Hospital. Bernard is now out of pain and in a happy place.

Midnight Madness

There will be sale prices on everything in the store, my own booth will be 20% off and there will be artists on hand to show their craft. It will be a great time for all! Pictured is a clay heart I created that is hung on beadalon wire with bone and is secured with a mother of pearl shell nugget. I will be taking this item to the mall for the event.

If you have never been to Finders Keepers you are missing out on hours and hours of shopping, browsing, wonderful sights and scents. Candles, jewelry, antiques, furniture and more fill the extremely large store.

Brushyfork Campground Music Fest

Today's show at Brushyfork Campground to sum it up was super great music and nice weather! What more can you ask for? More people! The music truly was wonderful. However, so many people were waiting for the main show (Andy Griggs) to sing that very little people showed up earlier in the day. The performers kept the beat, the spirit of the day and thier sense of humor. Kudos and high five to them!

In closing, I'm tired, its been a long but fun day. I met a few new people and sold a few pieces of jewelry. I got to spend time with my daughter and my little boy so, all is good. Here's hoping for fabulous fall weather just a little longer!

Copper Faced Goddess

This beauty is a polymer clay faced I created from a mold I made myself. She sat waiting for me to create something worthy of her copper god likeness and one day last week....voila'! Silly Stupid Love and Balance

I have read statements on blogs from the writers that read something like this "you don't want to hear about me or my life" or "I'm just going to write about business stuff"...well, as an creative minded person writing a blog I have a problem with that. A blog is a place to market your art but its also a place to rant, vent, persuade, get your beliefs across to others and otherwise give the outside world a little window into yours. So, if your reading this and you want to read about business stuff, paperwork, marketing, a weaving pattern or the hot colors for fall then, today is the wrong day to be reading this. Which by the way, I read purple is the color to be seen in this season.

Today will be a more personal view into my thoughts and perspective. Artists and creative persons use everything in their life to learn from and get inspired from. Sometimes, we simply get revved up. A lot of day to day things get me revved up. Injustice, impatience and rudeness just to name a few. I also have a dry sense of humor and try and inject it into everything. Humor sometimes is a cover up but it can also be a saviour. It can be a great thing to look at things light heartedly for a change. I don't know about all creative minds but I know I analyze everything. I also consider myself a fixer. Now I am not a carpenter, I am not literally a fixer of things.

In high school when we had to write a statement for yearbook mine read something like "I want to touch the lives of all people I meet." That still holds true. So, here's an injustice for you, you may have found statements on the internet speaking about a certain "lampworker" ( I use the term lightly) buying lampwork beads created by others and then reselling them as her own. Once she was found out of course, she back lashed with false accusations about tax fraud and such. What an ugly person to have to run into. The injustice here would also be if she gets away with it. There is a legal fund you can donate to if you would like to help those that have been victims. Simply search around enough and you will find it.

Here's a simple rudeness for you, I was trying to cross the street with my friend and our two children both under the age of three and the truck at the stop sign didn't even wait for us to get across before he went through the intersection and had to swerve into the other lane to miss us. Impatience. If I had had eggs with me I would have been launching them directly at his truck.

So, there I have done my little rant. Let's move on to the next topic of discussion. Silly stupid love. It makes us do all kinds of crazy, irrational things. No one ever said love would be easy. I don't know what ever made me think that. Love is constant work, sacrifice, commitment and hopefully mutually rewarding. Being in love in it's silly state of blindness is fantastic. Until something goes haywire. Outside influences for example. There is a thought for the day-don't let outside influences ruin love. Trust one another, talk to one another and work hard to devote time to yourself and one another.

Once you have had that first true love I don't believe you can ever get that "feeling" again. Now, I am waiting for my inbox to flood with angry outbursts. Hold on a second while I go look...just kidding. This isn't posted yet. See? Humor. First love is innocent, trusting, blind and all involving. Your first love you never forget. You will search your whole life and not find another like it. There's a reason for that. We have not yet been disillusioned when we have experienced our first love. Being young and having first love goes hand in hand so then, you have to throw in the "I am invincible" factor. Remember outside influences? Yeah, stupid love forgot to protect itself against that.

Remember first and foremost if you are in love, in a relationship or have a friend remember to listen to your partner, friend or lover. Really listen not just with open ears but an open heart. Don't let humor mask your feelings if at all possible. Do make sure you spend every waking moment being the best you can be, always improving and forgiving those that need forgiveness. If you can hang on to your first love then, you are the luckiest person in the world.

Next, we arrive at life as it is. You know how it goes, one day you simply realize that life is just what it is. You have made it what it is in a way so, if you are not satisfied with it then set plans into motion to improve it. Just remember not to be impatient, unjust or rude along the way.

Frist Yippppeeee.....error 28 is no more! Take a peek at my site http://www.bohemianglitz.com and it looks great! We hope to still get the drop down menu implemented but it is a far cry better than it was! Funny how you don't know how "bad" something is until you improve it. Who knew that removing purple moving petals and adding green "wallpaper" would make such a difference?

Another yipppeeee....I attended the annual bead show over the weekend and purchased some fantastic 8mm pearls, agate, crystal and more. I am looking forward to going to another in Cinncinnati at the end of October. I just love gem and bead shows! You get the best of the best at the best prices! Who could resist handling pearls vs shopping on the internet? Which I do that too.

Third yippppeee....we hit the drag strip to watch qualifying runs after the bead show. Yeah, I know. Seems out of place doesn't it? But its really not~my dad raced cars and I practically grew up in the pits. We didn't stay long since the little one had to nap but just hearing the thunderous roar was fantastic. It's so loud that it makes your chest vibrate! It reminds you that your alive!

Last yippeeee for today~it took 2 days but my son finally took a nap longer than an hour. Whew! he was starting to tire me out. It's hard work chasing after a little one.

Wowzer! Is all I have to say...I have worked side by side with a web consultant for over two weeks now to reconstruct my site. New template, new colors, texture, moving and resizing, drop down menu, footer nav and so on and so on.....

All was good until yesterday. Error 28 is haunting my site. Seems to be a temporary file or host file size problem. Not something I have done. However, out of frustration I have gone backwards and undone some of our work, hoping this would bring the site back to functional. It comes and goes. When it feels like it. Kinda like a teenager or a wandering boyfriend. Like the analogy there? I am trying to keep my sense of humor.

Amongst taking care of my little one, my teenager, my husband, my animals, the house and all it entails....my site is misbehaving badly. So very sad.....

I hope anyone checking in to browse or shop will come back again. I am hoping to have this corrected by this evening. In the meantime, my etsy and artfire shops are still going.

I like to be hands on so I can navigate, lay out, change, and so on most things on my own site without having to go to someone else for help. This really shouldn't be this difficult. Can someone out there please stomp all over error 28!?!?*?&!!

To all you independent artists out there: I hope you never have a site crash. It's a sickening feeling.
To all the supporters of independent artist: Please be patient with "us" and be sure to come back time and time again.

Good Tuesday Morning to all!

If you haven't checked in lately, be sure to visit my website http://www.bohemianglitz.com/ not only am I creating new designs but I have a whole new web layout! It is crisp, pleasing to the eye and as the days move forward so are we. Look for upcoming improvements such as drop down menus, live links, new shipping options and more!

Sometimes when you are the "do-it-all" things like computer work is last to get done. Unless, of course computers are your passion. My passion happens to be jewelry first, beads second. Jewelry only comes in first since my love of it began at a very early age. I remember at around the age of 12 my mother having some sort of home party for tupperware, avon or something of that nature. Honestly, I can't remember what the party was for. All I can remember is I was able to wear the most beautiful rhinestone bracelet that I had ever seen. Turns out, this was all part of a memory game.

Here's basically what went on: I was dressed in my "finery" (as fine as I could get at 12) with the fancy rhinestone bracelet on my wrist and I paraded around our living room carrying a round tray with objects laying on it. I had to go by each person in the room and let them look at the tray then, each guest had to try and list as many things on thier notepad that they could remember seeing. The catch here was the bracelet was an object they should have noted. I, of course, did not know this and had my hand under the tray part of the time.

I am sure there were other times even before that where jewelry was introduced to me since my mother had a love for it also. I grew up in the 80's and had all the big hoops and hair to prove it. Layered colors, multiple bracelets and lace anklet socks! I think what I really enjoyed the most was the fact that there was this attitude that "anything goes". To this day I push myself to think outside of the box with designs in every aspect.

Like most artists, we focus more on creating the art than creating a business. When beautiful art is created I believe people will take notice. So, in closing this month is balance month. I am learning new computer skills, taking better pictures and creating new designs. I am sincerely trying to do it all. Not only am I the designer and creator of jewelry but since I write the descriptions and photograph them I do a lot of computer work!

In addition to my growing business, I am a stay at home mother, a wife and all that it entails. I also have furry critters to care for. More than one of us needs special care and attention. I hope that you enjoy all the improvements happening on http://www.bohemianglitz.com/ and my postings here.

If you do not respond within three days your name will not go into the drawing. Please check your spam if you are not getting notifications. I am doing this to ensure that the winner is aware of the drawing and wants to participate. The gift certificate will expire in 9 years. No other restrictions will be set. If you wish to use the gift certificate on something listed in my artfire or etsy shop you can either email me and have me cancel your gift certificate and unlist the items from the appropriate store and mail them to you. Step Away!

Sometimes, you really need to just step away. Wether it be from business, the kids, the kitchen~just step away! Having a little balance in your life is healthy. That is why a few times a week I walk five miles or more on any given day. Great exercise, fresh air and usually lunch out. This also means a learning time for me and my little one. He is just beginning to walk, gets super excited when you introduce him to something new and would rather stay up than sleep and miss out on something. This is balance. Hearing the squeals of a little one, buying paint instead of beads, crawling on foam strawberries with your little one or pulling the toys off the shelf at your local toy store.

Balance is important for all of us. The babe can't walk steady just yet. You know the term "walking like a drunken sailor"? That's my babe. Balance is so important to him as well. That's why today, while I am preparing for market he's playing with Dad!!

I have to admit, I do have several sites going on....some for selling, some for connecting, some for marketing and some just for fun. One site that I love that is easy to use and you do not shop from it is ustrendy.com. For any of you that haven't heard of it~check it out. You can peruse the collection of clothes, accessories and jewelry. Designers have portfolios that you can vote on and it's heaven for window shoppers! Imagine looking at all the finest new attire without feeling the pressure of buying. For some lucky designer, they may even get a chance to have their creations made on a large scale. Talk about marketing!

Marketing Your Craft and Other Stuff

Quite possibly, I am not the one that should be writing about this subject. I am a stay at home mom, have many responsibilites including two children both with thier own "special needs". I have been working on or with computers since 1985. You would think I would be a pro by now. Just the opposite! I get by. Up until a few years ago, I didn't even realize how much information you could look up on the internet. When I took my first computer class you had to enter mathematical equations to create pinwheel black and white flowers. Nowadays, I am sure there are third graders that could create better blog pages than I.

I create jewelry. I certainly do not spend enough time marketing myself and if I do possiblly not in the correct places or not enough....Have you heard of my site? If you have, then maybe I am doing something right. Somewhere in the day to day goings on of chores, bills, kids, animals, I create. Sometimes, I find time to tweet, post on facebook, indiepublic, americancraftguide or ustrendy.
